Statement of Support and Documentation
In a few sentences, tell why this person belongs in the National High School Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Laris was a high school pioneer in the 2-mile and other distances. The 2M was not yet a standard HS event when Tom ran 9:21.4 in 1958 to break the previous mark set the year before by 7 seconds. The fact that Tom ran for George Washington of Manhattan, of the NYC PSAL, made his running all the more remarkable. The PSAL and five boroughs were not exactly distance territory. Tom also set HS 3-mile record of 14:56.2 in 1958, breaking Ron Larrieu's (Francie's brother) 14:58 from 1956. Both of Laris' records stood for 4 years. Laris also ran 4:18.9 mile for 4th in the country in '58.
