Statement of Support and Documentation
In a few sentences, tell why this person belongs in the National High School Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Bob Gourley is one of the nation's finest hammer coaches, having mentored many HS All-Americans during his 35 years at Barrington HS (R.I).  But that is not why he is being nominated in the Contributor section.

Over that same 35 years, Bob has compiled and dispersed deep, deep hammer (& indoor weight) lists on a weekly basis.  It is these lists that have helped to expand the interest and inspired athletes from all over the nation.  When he began the lists, Rhode Island was basically the only state where the event was held at the State meet level.  Now there are hot-beds of HTers across the nation from Washington to Ohio and Georgia, New York and the rest of New England.

In 2015, Gourley was named R.I. Track Association Coach-of-the-Year, the first ever for an assistant coach.  He is a member of the R.I. Interscholastic League Athletic Hall-of-Fame.  In 2016 he was honored by the NSAF with the Doug Speck Award for Excellence and Innovation.
