Statement of Support and Documentation
In a few sentences, tell why this person belongs in the National High School Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Along with Hugh Gardner, Fran Errota was one of the first compilers of national high school performance lists and the records that we use today, doing so for Track & Field News magazine. Fran (nee Frank) was born in Upland, Calif., in 1926, and served in the 88th Infantry Division in Italy in World War II. He worked for the San Jose Mercury News as a sportswriter for 38 years, concentrating on the high schools and junior colleges. During the track season he published weekly CCS (Central Coast Section) lists. He regularly covered the California state championships and also reported on three Olympic Games for the Mercury News. Errota passed away in March 2016 at the age of 89.
