Dave Johnson has been the Frank Dolson Director of the Penn Relays since 1996. He is also a long-time correspondent with Track and Field News, including being one of the world rankings panelists since 1982, and was the T&FN Statistics Editor from 1979 to 1987. Dave also chairs the National Track and Field Hall of Fame steering committee in addition to working with several other halls of fame within the sport.

An internationally respected historian of the sport, he has contributed to publications and exhibits in many locales and has worked for the IAAF, USATF and various local organizing committees on track and field publications and in-stadium presentation. Honors won by Johnson include the T.A.F.W.A. (Track and Field Writers Association) Don Potts and Sam Skinner Memorial Awards.
